Yes, I am referencing Keith Ferrazi’s book (he is on my mind since we both just spoke at the same conference!). Never Eat Alone is about using the things you do anyway and building relationships at the same time.
This is a great concept to take to your next conference. Lunchtime at these events can feel like you are back in high school, unsure what table to sit at. You have a couple of options, depending on if you are early or late for lunch.
Early… grab an empty table and make contact with those walking by and invite them to join. Or chat up who you are in line with and then suggest you sit together.
Late…look for a table with a few empty seats and full plates. You don’t want to join a group that is almost done eating.
At my last conference, I made plans with one person for dinner. Then I ran into someone else alone and invited them. It ended up being a group of 11, a few of whom I met on the elevator!
If you are willing to look up from your plate, smile, and say, “Join me!” — you will never eat alone.
