How Do You Give?

This last week, we celebrated Giving Tuesday. I almost didn’t remember.

I think I like the idea of a day to remind ourselves to have a generous spirit and a giving mindset. On the other hand, I don’t want it to be just once a year.

I’ve tried to instill in my children a philosophy of giving throughout the year, though the holidays certainly bring it to the forefront. Our kids still like getting a gift on each of the eight nights of Chanukah. One night is always dedicated to giving to the charity of their choice. This year James chose Khan Academy and Noah picked World Wildlife Foundation.

I know that Giving Tuesday is about financial giving, and that is certainly needed. But not everyone is in a position financially to be as giving as they may desire. Remember, there are a lot of ways to give.

Give Thanks

Give Credit

Give Time

Give a Hug

Give a Smile

So instead of, or actually in addition to, Giving Tuesday – it becomes a daily practice. At the end of each day ask yourself, how was I giving today?

Give whatever you can, and notice how people are giving to you!
