I am knee-deep in a home renovation project (and a quick refresh on my newsletter too!)
It’s exciting to finally be saying goodbye to the outdated wallpaper and built-ins that came with the house and bugged me for the last 15 years. I can’t wait to see how it will end up but the chaos of living through the project – the noise, the people in and out of my space, not having access to a bathroom – has been hard.

Change can suck – even when it is a change you want.
This thinking reminded me of a conversation I had years ago with my client at Johnson & Johnson. She asked me to speak on the topic of change, and I responded, “that’s NOT my area of expertise!” We all know I am not great with change. Do you remember the not so flattering story about me converting to an iPhone?
But she felt different. She said, yes, it is because I want you to focus on the human element of change – how to maintain positive relationships and navigate difficult emotions during times of transition.
In other words, she wanted her team to “stay likable” and play nice in the sandbox when everyone is anxious about the change. I said, “That, I can speak on.” That experience gave me the confidence to respond to Newsweek’s request to comment on their article, 13 Steps for Leaders to Take When Making Internal Cultural Changes.
I wrote about the concept of co-creation which requires communication and connection (my favorite words.)
