How do you learn?

Learning

Have you ever noticed how the most lasting lessons are the ones you actually experience—not just the ones you read or hear about?

The fact is, there are there are three types of learners and we each have a primary and a secondary style. Can you guess mine?

  1. Auditory: Learn by listening and hearing
  2. Visual: Learn by seeing and observing
  3. Kinesthetic or Experiential: Learn by doing  (This is me!)

In every training I design, I am always thinking about how to address two of the three types of learners at all times. The reality is learning happens over time and we have to move from thinking about it to trying it out before we can build a new skill or habit.

I call it the Think – Do – Act approach. We learn, we try, and then we adopt and implement. This is an approach you can use as a leader in developing the skills of your team. teach them, let them try, then give them the space and confidence to run with it.

This cycle isn’t just a teaching philosophy for me—it’s at the core of how I approach coaching, leadership, and even my own development. That’s why I’m genuinely excited about the upcoming Coaching.com Summit happening June 3rd-12th.

It’s the only summit I know that takes this same approach: learn during the webinars, then immediately put those insights into practice in live implementation sessions, before taking it back to your organization. That’s what I love about this summit—it’s not about passive listening, but active engagement.
