It’s May! Man, how time flies when there’s a pandemic consuming your thoughts and throwing your routine out of wack.
This month brings not only Mother’s Day (yay me!) but also my mother’s birthday and my mother-in-law’s birthday. That’s a lot of MOM to celebrate! Every year the month of May reminds me to be grateful and to celebrate the mothers in my life. But this year, it’s a bit different.
This year we have to be a little more creative to celebrate people and events. Hugs are hard to execute over Zoom. But we are all finding ways to continue to express our appreciation for one another. It turns out there are a lot of ways to let someone know that you’re thinking about them.
I have been sending a lot of “checking in” emails, bitmoji air hugs, and showering my kids with more actual hugs than they may want.
For my mother’s birthday, we did a drive-by parade and then sat 6 feet apart in a parking lot to celebrate. We were separated, but together. It made her day and ours. It definitely helped break up the monotony of life these days.
Happy Mother’s Day to my mom, my mother-in-law, my sisters, all of the mothers out there – and to me! I am writing this two days before Mother’s Day and I have been told my kids have a plan. Can’t wait!
As I’ve mentioned, I’m always looking for the silver lining at times like this. One thing I’ve noticed is that amidst all of the COVID chaos, people are reaching out to one another. They’re not waiting for Holidays like Mother’s Day to remind the people in their lives how much they love them. We are connecting. More intentionally, more frequently, and more creatively. And it’s really a remarkable thing.
What are you doing to connect, celebrate, and just break up the monotony?
