What if I told you that a simple act of kindness could be the secret ingredient to Connected Leadership?
Research shows that leaders who prioritize kindness not only foster a positive work environment but also enhance team performance. Kindness is foundational to becoming a Connected Leader.
Though not overtly, you will see the thinking needed to embrace empathy and kindness are embedded in the Connected Leader Course.
Imagine walking into a workplace where empathy reigns, where team members feel valued, and where collaboration thrives. This isn’t just a dream; it’s a reality that can be achieved through intentional acts of kindness.
I was coaching a leader who had an employee that was clearly overwhelmed. Instead of just pulling work from them or offering advice on how to get the work done. They decided to simply check in. They asked, “How are you doing?” and followed it up with “How can I help?”
That’s a Connected Leader.
Whether the answer was taking some work off their plate, giving guidance on accomplishing the to do list, or re-prioritizing that list – they would be part of that decision. The client shared that they strategically held the conversation away from their desks to remove the distractions, for both of them.
When replaying the conversation for me, he shared that the employee actually exhaled in a way that he could see their whole body relaxed. As a leader, when was the last time you enabled someone to exhale and breathe easier?
Sometimes taking that moment to listen and understand their challenges, get their input, and just show you care is so unexpected. I wish it wasn’t.
That small act of kindness not only lightened their load but also strengthened their working relationship. The result? A more engaged team and a successful project outcome.
Kindness in leadership isn’t about being soft; it’s about being smart. When leaders show genuine care, they build trust. Trust leads to open communication, and open communication drives innovation. It’s a cycle that can elevate any team to new heights.
So, how can you incorporate kindness into your leadership style? Start with small gestures: a simple thank you, an encouraging note, or even just taking the time to check in on your team. But really check in, not the cursory drive by with a passing, “all good?”
Kind and connected leadership is the model. These actions create a ripple effect, inspiring others to do the same.
